Come join us for an afternoon of music for winds and piano at the historic Allen Center in West Newton! Twilight: music of Alexander Zemlinsky, Leoš Janáček, and Johannes Brahms.
The Solar Wind Quintet – Jill Dreeben flute, Charlyn Bethell oboe, Diane Heffner, clarinet, Neil Godwin horn, and Sally Merriman bassoon, along with guests Guy Urban piano, and Margo McGowan clarinet, will perform a program including a Humoreske for wind quintet by Alexander Zeminsky, who was a protégé of both Brahms and Mahler; the sextet for winds Mladi (Youth) by Leoš Janáček, a reminiscence of and the composer’s time as a young scholar at St. Augustine Abbey at Brno; and the Piano Quartet in G minor, Op. 35 by Johannes Brahms, arranged for winds in the fabulous arrangement by Samuel Baron.
